Salt Lamps and Himalayan Salt Lamps are quite new to me, but after learning about their benefits, I wish I had discovered them much earlier! They look awesome and come in at various prices. Salt lamps for everyone!
Take a read of the benefits I’m about to discuss, and if they sound like something you might be interested in, all you need to do is Google search them, and so many different options, in various shapes, sizes, and price points will pop up!
The Benefits of Salt Lamps
#1: They’re great for air purification
The most well-known benefit and use of salt lamps is to cleanse the air and deodorize- they are able to remove dust, cigarette smoke, and other allergens.
This means they’re great for those with allergies and asthma.
#2: They help remove moisture from your room
Salt lamps may look innocent, but when they heat up, they attract water molecules from the environment, absorb, and trap them, along with the above-mentioned allergens. Pretty neat!
#3: They help get rid of harmful positive ions
Most homes are filled with positively charged ions (largely from the large number of electronics we have) which aren’t great for your health. However, salt lamps are negative ion generators. which can help keep our lungs and windpipe clear, making breathing easier and help our bodies filter air more efficiently!
#4: They can give you more energy, boost your mood and help you concentrate better
As discussed in my mini chemistry lesson, positive ions not only make breathing difficult, but they also lower our energy levels. If you notice your energy levels are low for no apparent reason, plug in a salt lamp, and see if this helps! You may also notice an improvement in your mood and concentration. The beautiful colors (think color therapy) also assist with stress and a positive mood.
#5: They help you get more zzzzzzs!
Great restful sleep will only happen if you have enough negative ions in the air to promote optimal oxygen levels in the room and balanced blood sugar levels. Get a salt lamp and you’ll soon be sleeping like a baby!
#6: They can help in the fight against SAD and depression
Us Canadian girls (and any of you living in colder climates with very limited daylight) know a thing or two about “Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).” We get tired, depressed, and long for those days when we can be outdoors in the sunshine.
Salt lamps emanate a soft glow that is close enough to sunshine that our bodies are tricked just enough to relieve some of the symptoms of SAD.
How to choose the perfect Salt Lamp for you
Are you sold? If you are, then you need to know how the heck to choose one! If you’re looking for a good quality lamp, take the following into account:
Color: Generally, the darker the shades of pink and orange, the better the quality of the salt lamp. In terms of color therapy, pink salt lamps are associated with positive emotions.
Size: The bigger the size, the bigger the space it can purify, and the more benefits you will likely notice. If you’re looking for your office or small bedroom, a smaller lamp will do! If you are around a lot of electronic equipment, you may want to consider a larger option.
Where to place your salt lamp
So you just got home with your snazzy new salt lamp – now to find the best place to put it! Given the benefits, the ideal place is in an area that you spend the most time. Place one next to your couch, on your night table, or on your desk to fully reap the benefits.
